The word "tapas" comes from the Spanish verb "tapar", which means "to cover". Spaniards used to cover their wine with a piece of bread to avoid any insects falling into their drinks. With the time, they started putting things on the bread (fish, olives, etc). Tapas evolved and if you travel to Spain eating tapas is a must.

You can also try them in Switzerland... Potato tortilla, jamon iberico (raw ham), queso manchego (cheese from Castilla La Mancha), calamares (squid), aceitunas (olives), patatas bravas (spicy potatoes), spicy mushrooms and so many more! Guests love this finger food... but you need plenty on napkins!
